Program Townhall Pengukuran Kemiskinan Multidimensi (MPI) Labuan anjuran Pusat Pengajian Pembangunan Ungku Aziz (UAC), Universiti Malaya (UM) dengan kerjasama rakan strategik Fakulti Kewangan Antarabangsa Labuan (FKAL), Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Kampus Antarabangsa Labuan (KAL) telah berlangsung dengan jayanya pada 13 Jun 2026, menghimpunkan peserta Program Basmi Miskin Tegar (BMT), pelajar universiti serta pelbagai pihak berkepentingan dalam usaha memahami dan menangani isu kemiskinan secara lebih menyeluruh.

Sesi pagi dimulakan dengan ucapan alu-aluan oleh Pengarah UAC, Datin Sri Profesor Dr. Suhaiza Hanim Dato' Mohamad Zailani, diikuti Taklimat Townhall dan pelaksanaan Survei MPI yang melibatkan 19 peserta BMT. Pada sebelah petang, seramai 40 pelajar UMSKAL mengikuti ceramah ilmiah yang membincangkan kemiskinan multidimensi, cabaran kemiskinan tegar dalam kalangan remaja serta peranan keusahawanan dalam meningkatkan taraf hidup masyarakat.

Program ini telah disempurnakan oleh Mantan Menteri Ekonomi Malaysia merangkap Penasihat UAC, Dato' Seri Mustapha Mohamad yang menegaskan bahawa pembasmian kemiskinan tegar memerlukan pendekatan holistik melibatkan pendidikan, kemahiran, pekerjaan dan peluang ekonomi yang mampan.

Penganjuran program ini mencerminkan komitmen berterusan UAC, Universiti Malaya dan UMSKAL dalam memperkukuh kerjasama strategik demi kesejahteraan masyarakat dan pembangunan negara. The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) Labuan Townhall Programme, organized by the Ungku Aziz Centre for Development Studies (UAC), Universiti Malaya (UM), in collaboration with its strategic partner, the Labuan Faculty of International Finance (FKAL), Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL), was successfully held on 13 June 2026. The programme brought together participants of the Hardcore Poverty Eradication Programme (BMT), university students, and various stakeholders in a collective effort to better understand and address poverty from a multidimensional perspective.

The morning session commenced with a welcoming address by the Director of UAC, Datin Sri Professor Dr. Suhaiza Hanim Dato' Mohamad Zailani, followed by the Townhall Briefing and the implementation of the MPI Survey involving 19 BMT participants. In the afternoon session, 40 UMSKAL students attended an academic lecture focusing on multidimensional poverty, the challenges of hardcore poverty among youth, and the role of entrepreneurship in improving the socio-economic well-being of communities.

The programme was officiated by the former Minister of Economy of Malaysia and Advisor to UAC, Dato' Seri Mustapha Mohamad, who emphasized that the eradication of hardcore poverty requires a holistic approach encompassing education, skills development, employment opportunities, and sustainable economic empowerment.

The successful implementation of this programme reflects the continued commitment of UAC, Universiti Malaya, and UMSKAL to strengthening strategic collaboration in promoting community well-being and national development.
