The Ungku Aziz Centre for Development Studies (UAC) Research Grant was introduced to support academic staff in enhancing research activities in alignment with the designated research niche set by the Dean/Head of Responsibility Centre (PTj).

Terms & Conditions

A UAC funding initiative to support research, knowledge development, and innovation among UM researchers.

Applicant Requirements
  • A
    Applications are open to all academic staff at Universiti Malaya — Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer, Research Officer, and Academic Staff.
  • B
    All applications must meet the prescribed terms of reference and will be evaluated by the UAC Evaluation Committee.
  • C
    Each applicant must submit a complete proposal via the official email of the Ungku Aziz Centre for Development Studies (UAC) for further approval.
  • D
    Successful applications will be forwarded to the Research Grant Management Centre (PPGP) for account opening and overall monitoring of research output.
  • E
    Applicants on contract status must nominate at least one Co-Researcher who holds a permanent position at Universiti Malaya.
Claims & Payments
  • All claims and payments must be completed within 3 months after the project end date.

Required Output

For every RM10,000 of allocated funding, the project must produce at least the following deliverables.

ONE (1) publication in a WOS/Scopus-indexed journal, book, book chapter, or policy paper.

Engagement
ONE (1) video (live or recorded) or web/social media content — website, blog, or community engagement.

News
ONE (1) newspaper article reporting on the research findings or activities.

Research Poster
ONE (1) research poster for the UAC Research Seminar, representing the respective field of study.

Acknowledgement of the UAC Research Grant (UMGXXX-2024UAC) must be clearly stated in every publication.

Failure to submit evidence of publications will affect future research applications.

Proof of publication must be submitted to UAC once published — not necessarily within the active grant period.

Impact & Ethics

Ensuring research integrity and meaningful societal contribution.

Research Impact
  • Each proposed project must demonstrate clear impact on knowledge (new discoveries or theories), industry, and/or society. The Principal Investigator is required to state the expected impact (not exceeding 5 lines) and must confirm this stated impact.
Research Ethics
  • All research involving human participants or vertebrate animal subjects conducted by university staff and students must be referred to the appropriate ethics committee.
If successful, proof of ethics application must be submitted before the activation of the research account.

Project Reporting

Structured reporting ensures transparency and continuity throughout the grant lifecycle.

Progress Report

Physical and financial progress reports must be submitted to the Director of UAC for onward submission to PPGP every 3 months throughout the project period.

Final Report

The final research report must be submitted to the Director of UAC according to the stipulated deadline, for onward submission to PPGP.
